The Animal
Shelter is home to Animal
Control,
a division of the police department. We respond to most animal calls in the city
limits. We deal with problems such as barking dogs, animals at large,
animal bites or wild animals. If you have a problem with any
animal, yours, your neighbor's, or a wild animal that is where it
shouldn't be or doing something you wish it weren't, call us. If
we can't help, we know who can or how you can fix it yourself.
Call us if you suspect there is an animal in danger, but especially if
there is a dangerous animal. Please do not
approach a dangerous animal.
Lost
Dog or Cat
If you lost your pet, call the animal shelter
at 352-1455. We keep track of lost dogs and cats so we can
get them back home. We also track reports of
at-large animals and sometimes this can help you find your pet.
Animal Licenses

cats in the city must be licensed as soon as they are 6 months of age

At-Large
Animals
Everyone is responsible to keep their
animals under control. If your dog or cat is wandering the
streets, you are responsible and may be cited by an animal control or
police officer. If an animal is not on the premises of it's
owner, and not on a leash, and not inside a vehicle with its windows
closed enough to prevent the escape of the animal, the animal is
"at-large".
-
1st offense is a $50 fine,
-
2nd offense is an $80 fine, and
-
Additional offences are a $160 fine and a mandatory
appearance in municipal court.
If an animal is picked up by an officer and
impounded, in addition to any fine, there is an impound fee you must pay
before your animal is returned. Impounded animals are kept for 5 days
and then made available for adoption. After
10 days, the animal is euthanized according to the city ordinance.
