MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION:

On behalf of all the staff in our Parks and Recreation Department, I welcome you to 2018 and hope you will browse thru all of the ‘quality of life’ activities we provide here in Rock Springs! This year looks to be a more promising year in terms of funding to provide you with all of the recreational opportunities you (hopefully) have grown to enjoy!

Whether it’s a dip in one of our indoor pools or hot tubs, or having some fun with the kids in the leisure pool area, we hope you’ll take advantage of all the fun and activity we provide.  If you have a grade-school child who wants a super-fun birthday party this spring, contact the Civic Center Programs office to find out all about our NEW Bounce House Birthday Parties! While winter is here, we invite you to come out and ice skate at the FRC Ice Arena.  The rink is open daily and caters to many hockey players and figure skaters, but also makes time every day for a public-skate session where recreational skaters can skate.  Once spring arrives, we will have our 27-hole golf course well-groomed for all levels of golfers.  We also have 25 city parks in which to visit and create your own way to recreate- from flying kites to throwing a ball or Frisbee to sunbathing or just breathing in some fresh air and reading a book.    As summer arrives, we always have plenty of activities to keep the kids busy when they are on summer break- from youth developmental sports activities, to outdoor wading pools, to fun run/walks and more – we are your one-stop shop for active fun!  And don’t forget our disc golf course at Arthur Park – a fun time for anyone who wants to throw discs.  Our bike park continues to be further developed next to the FRC and is open for bike enthusiasts.  If it’s an evening of live music and fresh air that interests you, watch for our summer Concert in the Park series!

All of these quality areas take a lot of effort to operate and maintain – but it’s worth it because it provides YOU, the citizen, with numerous QUALITY OF LIFE options that are essential to a healthy lifestyle.  We invite you to come out and participate in these and a wide range of other activities provided by the four divisions that make up RS Parks & Recreation including the Parks Department, the Wataha Recreation Area/White Mountain Golf Course, Civic Center Programs and the Family Rec Center.

If you need my personal assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.  It is our wish to give the community our very best because we are Parks and Recreation – we take our work and patrons seriously – and we care deeply about our image as a department.

Best wishes for good health in 2018!

Dave Lansang – Director of Parks and Recreation
