A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR...
BIG NEWS! As we enter the fall of 2024 in Rock Springs Parks & Recreation, there will be a leadership change at the top of the department. After 43 years in this department, I will be retiring and JJ Syvrud will be my successor. In the hope of a seamless transition, JJ and I have been working together for months on our current Specific Purpose Tax projects, budgets, facility operations & services, and all the components that make up Parks & Recreation.
JJ has made a significant commitment to the whole of Parks & Recreation for over two decades and is the right choice to lead a department that has been challenged with reduced resources for over a decade and only recently began to make gains under the leadership of Mayor Mickelson. All of our challenges are currently being outlined in a ‘Needs Assessment’ being completed by our consultant, BerryDunn, in the hopes of right-sizing our resources for the department and/or our facilities & services for the future. Hopefully their report will be the catalyst to improve upon our services & facilities even more.
I’ll leave the citizens of Rock Springs with one thing I am certain of: The Rock Springs Parks & Recreation Department is ‘hands-down’ the hardest working department in the entire city, driven by a contingency of supervisors who are committed to working hard and who take great ownership & pride in their operations. Our employees are also passionate about what they do for the residents of this city and I know that will continue. All the best!
